To put Minecraft's popularity in context, Epic announced in August 2018 that Fortnite had 78.3 million monthly players. Additionally, Roblox, an MMO game of creation Roblox reached 100 million monthly active users in August 2019.
Minecraft still receives regular updates, and Minecraft was added to Xbox Game Pass in April 2019; this has surely has helped to expand the reach of the game more.
Minecraft boss Helen Chiang told Business Insider that Minecraft is a game people enjoy coming back to time and time. Minecraft Crafting Chiang stated that although it might not be the most popular, there are many excellent games available. However, they enjoy returning to Minecraft.
Microsoft acquired the Minecraft franchise and developer Mojang in 2014 for $2.5 billion. The creator of the series Markus "Notch" Persson is no longer involved in the franchise. He spent $70 million on the Beverly Hills mansion, outbidding Beyonce and Jay-Z for the home.

Writer Allison Schroeder (Hidden Figures, Frozen 2) was hired to write the most recent draft of the screenplay The Minecraft movie is scheduled for release in theatres on March 4, 2022. There is no word yet on if it will be animated or live action or a hybrid and we don't know who could be the main character. Steve Carell was reportedly involved in the project in the past however it's unclear whether that's still the case.
